Last week, 22-year-old singer-songwriter Sophie Allison, frequently known as Soccer Mommy, launched her Soccer Mommy & Friends Singles Series to raise money for COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter-related organizations. She teamed up with friends and collaborators like Jay Som and Beabadoobee to trade covers of each other’s work. Today she returns with her own rendition of MGMT‘s “Indie Rokkers” while group member Gentle Dom, also known as Andrew VanWyngarden, remixes Soccer Mommy’s “circle the drain.”

The Singles Series follows Allison’s color theory LP from late-February that garnered critical acclaim for its structure and songwriting. She broke the 10 tracks down into three colors: “Blue for sadness, depression and heartbreak; yellow for paranoia and illness, mental and physical; and gray for death,” the artist detailed. In a recent press release, Soccer Mommy shared her thoughts on her new collaboration.

“I love MGMT so it was hard to pick a song to cover. They have so many great ones. I ended up choosing “Indie Rokkers” because I thought it would fit my voice and my style the best,” she said. “I also just thought it’d be cool to do a deep cut since a lot of people have already covered some of the bigger MGMT songs.”

MGMT’s VanWyngarden added, “[I was] psyched to try out adding some additional seasoning to the already tasteful sounds of Soccer Mommy. With the proceeds going to great organizations like Oxfam COVID relief and The National Bailout fund, it made it even more spicy.”
