Nickelodeon Announces SpongeBob Squarepants as Member of LGBTQ Community
In celebration of Pride Month.
To celebrate Pride Month, Nickelodeon has now officially revealed that SpongeBob SquarePants is a member of the LGBTQ community.
Taking to Twitter, the children’s television network wrote, “Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month.” Accompanying the tweet were images of SpongeBob, Schwoz Schwartz from Henry Danger and Korra from Avatar: The Legend of Korra.
Although it has been long assumed by fans that SpongeBob is homosexual, Nickelodeon did not specify the character’s specific identity. Nevertheless, fans of the show have taken to social media to celebrate the reveal and applaud the Nickelodeon for the reveal in celebration of Pride Month.
