Hoops Announce Sophomore Album With New Single "Fall Back"
The band’s next project ‘Halo’ releases October 2 via Fat Possum.
Indiana band Hoops have returned from their self-proclaimed indefinite hiatus. Back in 2017 the group, consisting of life-long friends Drew Auscherman, Kevin Krauter and Keagan Beresford, burst onto the scene with their critically-acclaimed debut Routines. After nearly three years they’re back with “Fall Back” and an announcement — their next full-length project Halo will release October 2 via Fat Possum.
“I think we had lost a lot of steam,” band member Kevin Krauter said of the hiatus in a recent press release. “Hoops wasn’t moving forward organically. It was being dragged along.” The new song centers around the concept of a long-distance relationship. It’s also the first track that the band has written fully together. “I had to rediscover why I wanted to be in a band and make songs and perform,” Keagan Beresford said of the three year break. “I had been having a lot of anxiety when I was onstage. I wasn’t even thinking about playing. I was just thinking about getting through the set without falling on my face. It’s crazy to think about all the shows we did where I wasn’t really present.”
The group got back together in December 2019 and began fleshing out new ideas. The latest project was recorded back home in Bloomington, Indiana and within a week the trio had hit their stride. “This record is a more honest representation of our influences and interests as musicians,” Auscherman continued. “We’ve grown a lot in four years, as people and as listeners. We’re starting to sound more like ourselves.”
