Watch Freddie Gibbs, Madlib and the El Michels Affair Perform "Gat Damn"
As part of the group’s ongoing ‘Diamond Mine Sessions.’
Freddie Gibbs and Madlib‘s second full-length collaborative project Bandana is a gift that keeps on giving. After the instrumental-only Bandana Beats and the entire multi-visual cinematic universe, MadGibbs have teamed up with Leon Michels and the El Michels Affair for The Diamond Mine Sessions live performance series. Today the group revisits “Gat Damn” for a soulful and jazz-infused take.
Gibbs and Madlib teamed up with the El Michels Affair during their memorable NPR Tiny Desk performance last December and the chemistry continues to grow with every release. The Amazon Music partnership was filmed at legendary Queens, New York Diamond Mine recording studio for which Freddie says, “Every time I come in Diamond Mine, I feel like Sammy Davis Jr. or some sh*t. It’s just a real sense of power and authenticity that flows through me when I come in here and work with Leon [Michels].”
Other tracks in the live session recordings include “Freestyle Shit” and “Palmolive,” so look out for those renditions in the near future. During the original trailer, Freddie also revealed that he and Madlib have plenty of more music on the way and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
