Justin Vernon Performs New Bon Iver Song During Virtual Bernie Sanders Town Hall
Titled “Things Behind Things Behind Things.”
During one of Bernie Sanders’ virtual town halls about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic Saturday, Justin Vernon performed a new song from Bon Iver titled “Things Behind Things Behind Things.” Vernon also performed a variety of other songs from his home, including “Towers” and “Blood Bank,” similarly covering Bob Dylan’s “With God on Our Side.”
Singing the song over a laidback electric guitar, Vernon sings “I don’t like the way it’s looking/I can’t go through the motions/How am I supposed to do this now/I am afraid, of changing/The way I look back makes me a competitor/There are things behind things behind things.”
Earlier this year, Justin Vernon performed for Sanders at a rally in Clive, Iowa. Bon Iver’s Blood Bank EP from 2009 was most recently reissued for its 10th anniversary, with followed the band’s critically-acclaimed fourth LP, i,i, last year.
