KEY!'s Had Enough of the Small Talk With "Let's Go"
Another offering from his upcoming ‘I Love You, Say It Back’ project.
After last week’s “Sugar & Rice”, Atlanta rapper KEY! returns with another single from his forthcoming studio album I Love You, Say It Back with “Let’s Go.”
KEY! ended last year with “Kirkwood Freestyle”, an emotional, acoustic track with his usual penchant for addicting one-liners like, “My b*tch don’t wear Fashion Nova/ I’m a dog, can’t roll me over/ Remember that sh*t like I was sober/ When I was down, she still bent over.” He’s always managed to deliver a stream-of-consciousness flow with half-obscure, half-relevant references that are still apt enough to be relatable, all while maintaining an honest sentimentality throughout.
While last week’s “Sugar & Rice” built upon some of the sonic qualities that made SO EMOTIONAL so effective in the re-listens category, “Let’s Go” features a bouncy, flute-heavy dream-like sequence produced by 14GOLDS for a change of pace. It’s almost pop-like with plenty of forward motion driven by the layered drums. Even the chorus is a call to action with, “Who do you think you, who do you think you are?/ I don’t think I know/ Don’t stop, I go/ Enough with the small talk, b*tch let’s go.”
After his breakthrough 777 project with Kenny Beats, KEY! continued to grow with his follow-up, the often tropical, Miami-themed SO EMOTIONAL. So far, with “Kirkwood Freestyle”, “Sugar & Rice” and “Let’s Go”, KEY! continues to venture off on his own path.
