Vans and Taka Hayashi Reunite for Military-Inspired "DIY" Pack
Featuring bold tiger camo patterns, zebra prints and more.

Vans and Taka Hayashi have returned for another “DIY” pack consisting of Sk8-Hi and Old Skool silhouettes that come with kits of various velcro patches. Following their previous project — DIY kits with bright summer-tinged colors — the two labels have switched things up with bold military-inspired designs.
Covered with sleek black velcro all around, the silhouette comes with contrasting top-stitching that gives the wearer a sense of where to stick on various panels. From olive suede toebox panels to tiger camo tongues to cheetah-patterned side stripes, a variety of panels are offered. The Sk8-Hi comes with a handful of bold camo prints set in subdued earth tones, while the Old Skool features a more concise selection of add-ons. One highlight of the Old Skool’s “DIY” kit is the set of eyelet and forefoot panels — the shoe can either bear the mold of a traditional Old Skool with laces or resemble a Slip-On when replacing the eyelets for the forefoot panel. Other pieces like embroidered patch logos and heel counter swatches round off the highly customizable pack.
Vans and Taka Hayashi’s new “DIY” Sk8-Hi and Old Skool are currently available on BILLY’s website for ¥28,000 JPY and ¥25,000 JPY (approximately $268 USD and $240 USD), respectively.
