Elon Musk Overtakes Bill Gates to Become World's Second-Richest Person
Leaping 33 places since January.
Tesla co-founder Elon Musk has overtaken Bill Gates to become the world’s second-richest person, only one week after he overtook Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg to become the third richest.
According to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index, a recent surge in Tesla’s share price saw Musk’s net-worth rise by $7.2 billion USD to $127.9 billion USD, a move that now sees him behind Amazon boss Jeff Bezos in the rankings.
After announcing it will be joining the S&P 500 index of leading U.S. companies last week, Tesla’s market value sits on the brink of $500 billion USD.
Three-quarters of Musk’s worth is as a result of Tesla, while he is also involved in SpaceX which last week sent four astronauts to the International Space Station on its Falcon rocket and Dragon capsule alongside Nasa.
After being overtaken by Musk last week, Zuckerberg has now fallen into fourth spot this week behind French businessman Bernard Arnault.
