It was just last year that the original online marketplace, eBay, doubled down on its place in the sneaker world by eliminating sneaker seller fees and partnering with Stadium Goods for a series of highly sought-after drops. Now, the e-commerce platform is taking things a step further with its official Authenticity Guarantee program for sneaker sales on the site. The platform, which claims it sells a pair of sneakers every 1.5 seconds, is now providing meticulous multi-point inspections for all new and pre-owned collectible sneakers sold for over $100 USD.

As showcased in the video above, eligible sneakers are identified by a blue check-mark badge. After a purchase is made, the seller ships the sneakers to an eBay authentication partner where each pair will be fully inspected, vetted and verified by an independent team of industry experts. Upon receiving the sneakers, the authenticator confirms the shoes are consistent with the listing title, description, and images, and then performs a multi-point physical authentication inspection. An eBay tag, guaranteeing the authenticity of the sneaker, is attached to finalize the process, driving confidence in collectibility and resale value. If it passes inspection, it’s shipped to the buyer with three-day secure delivery and signature confirmation for sneakers over $750.

The initial launch covers all new condition Jordan and Yeezy purchases for over $200 USD and will ramp up to include all collectible sneaker sales over $100 USD by early 2021. Watch the video above to see the entire process unfold, then head to eBay’s website to purchase any sneaker and try out the new Authenticity Guarantee program for yourself.
