Hong Kong-based art toy dealer How2work is gearing up to launch an open edition series of figures designed by Yoshitomo Nara. Titled 123 Drumming Girls, the pieces feature Nara’s recognizable child-like characters in playful drummers’ uniforms with the numbers “1.” “2,” and “3” embellished on their respective caps. The set is priced at $2,500 HKD (approx. $323 USD).

Across his works, the Japanese artist predominantly portrays innocent children and animals, but also reflects the darkness in them — a duality that isn’t easily noticed for those who are unfamiliar of his works. Nara is also influenced by elements of neo-expressionism and punk rock. His collections have been shown at the Art Institute of Chicago, Osaka National Museum of Art, among many other prestigious institutions.

How2work is going to launch the first batch of 123 Drumming Girls at a pop-up store at Hong Kong’s LANDMARK ATRIUM October 17. All interested buyers will need to send an email to 123@how2work.com.hk.

Elsewhere in art, Phillips is hosting a presentation of archival works by Keith Haring at K11 MUSEA.
