Joaquin Phoenix to Portray Napoleon Boanaparte in Upcoming Biopic 'Kitbag'
The epic historical drama will reunite the ‘Joker’ actor with his ‘Gladiator’ director, Ridley Scott.

Joaquin Phoenix will be portraying French military leader and emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in Ridley Scott‘s upcoming film, Kitbag.
The project will see the Gladiator director and actor reunite for another epic historical drama while David Scarpa serves as the scriptwriter. Its title is reportedly derived from the phrase, “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag,” and promises “an original and personal look” at the origins of the famed historical figure and how he ruthlessly clawed his way to becoming emperor, as seen through the prism of his unpredictable relationship with his first wife, Joséphine de Beauharnais. The film aims to “capture Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.”
A release date for Kitbag is yet to be announced, especially with COVID-19 still disrupting the industry, however, Scott plans to begin production for the film once he finishes the MGM drama Gucci, which stars Lady Gaga as murderess Patrizia Reggiani alongside Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Adam Driver and Jared Leto.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Kid Cudi and Jonah Hill have joined Leonardo DiCaprio, Timotheé Chalamet and Meryl Streep in the upcoming Adam McKay Netflix film Don’t Look Up.
