Belgian designer Glenn Martens has been announced as the Creative Director of Diesel, overseeing the label’s style, communications, interior design and “overall creativity” according to a statement. Martens is best known for his work at Parisian label Y/Project, which he joined in 2017.

Glenn Martens has previously worked with Diesel as part of the brand’s Red Tag project, with a collaborative collection presented at Milan Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2019. Announcing Martens’ appointment, Diesel founder Renzo Rosso explained that he was “happy to pass the baton to Glenn. I know for sure he will take this iconic brand in his hands with love, respect and passion. And with the right approach to make it dreamed about, desired and loved.”

Martens also commented on his appointment, adding, “I am extremely honored and excited to join the Diesel family. Synonymous with radicality, honesty, and optimism, Diesel helped shape the way we see the future. Its unique voice has made it an undeniable icon. Today, more than ever, I feel the need to celebrate these founding values, to build bridges through a message of hope.”

Keep an eye out for more details about Diesel’s new direction and Martens’ first collection for the label in the near future. While you wait, refresh your memory of Y/Project’s Spring/Summer 2021 show.
