sacai & SPIBER Team for Sustainable Neil Armstrong-Referencing T-Shirts
Featuring a blend of cotton and SPIBER’s “brewed protein” faux silk.
Earlier this year, Japanese textile research company SPIBER rejoined forces with The North Face to create a new iteration of the Moon Parka, utilizing a synthetic spider silk textile that focused in on both brands’ emphasis on sustainability. Now SPIBER has teamed up with sacai for four new T-shirts utilizing the same “brewed protein” textile, blended with soft cotton.
A part of the fashion brand’s Spring/Summer 2020 lineup, the collaboration — consisting of two unique T-shirt designs in two colorways of either black or heather gray — features the iconic “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” quote from astronaut Neil Armstrong. Minimizing its carbon footprint, sacai has employed SPIBER’s environmentally-friendly material made from synthetic proteins.
Designed by art director Fabien Baron, the first of the T-shirt designs features the aforementioned quote in bold block-lettering on both the front and back. The second design has been emblazoned with a graphic on the front left chest, with the quote repeated in a typewriter-styled font on the rear. Finishing off the T-shirts is a co-branded logo that has been printed on the bottom right of each shirt’s backside.
You can take a look at sacai and SPIBER’s T-shirt capsule above. The pieces will release on January 18 for ¥39,000 JPY (approximately $355 USD) via sacai’s flagships, with the gray iterations being limited to the brand’s Aoyama storefront.
