Nez Taps ScHoolboy Q for Deep House-Infused Cut "Wild Youngster"
Releasing the track alongside a self-directed music video.
If anything is for sure within the hip-hop landscape this year, it’s that producers are going to be taking their approach to music one step further by showcasing their entire artistic package. Of this wave of producers who’ve began singing and/or rapping over their production is Nez of production duo Nez & Rio, who is stepping out into the limelight with a new single titled “Wild Youngster.” To assist with the effort, ScHoolboy Q — an artist Nez has produced for before — has joined to lay down is characteristically brisk flow.
Bringing a sweaty deep house underlay to the forefront of the track, Nez eclectically performs the track’s tweaked chorus and bridge vocals. ScHoolboy Q contrasts Nez’s funky delivery with his Gangster-tipped flow, dropping bars like “How I get the big crib price, ni**a, woah / Wonder what them M’s feel like, ni**a, woah / Can I come again like Christ, ni**a, woah,” and more. The single also arrives alongside a self-directed black-and-white music video that sees the two vibing out as they perform the night-ready jam.
Speaking to The FADER, Nez shared a bit about the track’s influence:
I want to make people feel again. I want to make people dance. I’m creating my universe through sound. The feeling I got visiting Paris during fashion week and going to the afterparties. In my head, I was thinking ‘what would Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss be partying to in the 90s with Gianni Versace.’ House music started in Chicago, it has always had a major impact on me because that’s the music that we grew up listening and partying to.
