The latest Seiko watches drop sees skateboarder Shinpei Ueno take the new pieces for a test ride around London’s classic street and skate spots. The Seiko sports models Shinpei wears are a selection of revamped Prospex and Seiko 5 Sports designs – the 1960s originals shifted the way modern watches are worn. Seiko Prospex has become a classic go-to for divers, sports-lovers and adventurers with its sleek function, performance and design, whilst Seiko 5 Sports 2019 feature fresh colours and textured straps from metal mesh Milanese to canvas nato styles The new series is designed for a new generation of watch-wearers, echoing the design of the original watches with a minimalist, modern execution to complement daily use.

The Japanese watch brand has re-created their popular 1970 Diver’s watch, paying faithful homage to its original design. Nicknamed ‘Captain Willard’ after the Martin Sheen character from ‘Apocalypse Now,’- 40 years old this year the timepiece features dual-curved Sapphire crystal glass and a reinforced accordion silicone strap. Upgraded from its original design in the collection is The new ‘Sumo,’ as known by fans for its sturdy shape – available with a black or green dial and a three-fold clasp with push-button release, secure lock and extender.

The fresh drop also includes the ‘Monster’ – nicknamed because of its bezel like a monster’s teeth – which boasts a classic vintage-like Lumibrite. Originally launched back in 2000, the ‘Monster’ is available in a blue or black dial while the strap is available in stainless steel as well as in black silicone. Also featuring in the editorial are Seiko 5 Sports models, famously known in Japan as the country’s first-ever automatic day-date watch. The “5” on the watch represents the Seiko 5’s five key attributes: 1)  day-date display at the 3-o’clock position, 2) water resistance, 3) an automatic movement, 4) comfort with a recessed crown at 4 o’clock and 5) durability with a strong case and bracelet. Seiko 5 Sports was created in 1968, to meet the need for substantial and reliable sports models. The latest drop of the Seiko 5 Sports is set to be known as a go-to casual watch in an array of colours and textured straps.

The watch prices range from £250-£3850 [GBP] ($480 – $4,683 USD) and are available on the Seiko website.
