'PUBG' to Support Cross-Play for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 This October
Season 4 arrives August 27.
PUBG Corp has just announced at Gamescom 2019 that its flagship title PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will soon be supporting cross-console-play for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms.
Community Manager at PUBG Corp Cecilia Lee has said that cross-play has been “hands down, the most requested feature since we launched on console” and that implementing the new mechanic will improve the game in two ways: “Our first goal with cross platform play was for 100 players from both console communities to be able to play in the same match. Our second goal was to improve our matchmaking times, which we expect to be shorter for due to the wider matchmaking pool.”
According to the announcement, cross-play for the two platforms will be available on public test servers end of September for a week of beta testing before hopefully hitting live servers early October for general release. Aside from cross-play, PUBG also dropped a trailer for its fourth season — which you can watch above — teasing an array of new weapons, outfits, airdrops and purchasable items, as well as the highly-anticipated map revamp of Erangel, the game’s original arena. Lee says that “Season 4 may be our biggest update yet,” so fans of the title should definitely mark their calendars for August 27 when the new season commences.
