Netflix's 'Mindhunter' Season 2 Will Focus on the Grisly 1979 Atlanta Child Murders
Watch the first official trailer now.
The newest trailer of Netflix’s Mindhunter is here. Focusing on the Atlanta child murders that occurred between 1979 and 1981, season two sees FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Trench getting sent to the city in order to help close the case. Similar to the real events that transpired, the trailer highlights the clash between authorities regarding the presence of racial motivation of the person(s) behind the killings. While many suspect the Klu Klux Klan as the perpetrators, Agent Ford thinks otherwise.
Mindhunter 2 will also feature Ford and Trench monitoring a number of infamous serial killers, including Charles Manson, David Berkowitz a.k.a. Son of Sam and Dennis Rader a.k.a. the BTK Strangler. Ed Kemper, the main focus of the show’s previous season, also remains as an FBI confidant attempting to aid the two agents in solving the grim murders.
On top of the two-year-long case, the duo are feeling more pressure from the new head of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit. Psychology professor Wendy Carr returns to the series in fear of Ford mishandling the case and losing their investment, along with Trench facing personal problems that seem to involve his son.
Reprising their roles this season are Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany as Ford and Trench, Anna Tory as Professor Carr and Cameron Britton as Kemper. Exactly like his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Damon Herriman also portrays cult leader Charles Manson — only older this time around.
WARNING: Possible spoilers below.
The Atlanta child murders saw at least 28 African-American people (including kids and adults) dead in a span of two years. Authorities prosecuted Wayne Williams, who was 23 at the time, for two of the adult murders and was handed two consecutive life terms. Due to the unsolved nature of the children’s deaths, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms reopened the case in March 2019 hoping to seek a conviction.
Mindhunter season two premieres August 16 exclusively on Netflix.
In other entertainment news, Andy Serkis will be directing the upcoming Venom sequel.
