Watch French Inventor Franky Zapata Cross the English Channel on a Hoverboard
Traveling 110mph.
French inventor and jet-powered hoverboard pilot Franky Zapata has just done the unthinkable. The 40-year-old Frenchman has just successfully flown his Flyboard over the Strait of Dover; from Sangatte, France to St Margaret’s at Cliffe, England — a distance of 22 miles (35km).
This acts as Zapata’s second attempt as his first attempt was on July 25 — the 110th anniversary of the first Channel crossing by plane –- but his equipment was damaged due to turbulence. The entire feat lasted some 22 minutes in which Zapata flew some 110mph at an altitude of 20 meters. As his setup only allows for approximately 10 minutes of flight, he was required to land on a large boat midway through for refueling.
