Converse Stars Japan Unveils '90s Graphic-Inspired 'Dragon Ball' Capsule
Starring Son Guku and Bulma.
Converse Stars Japan is releasing a collaboration with Dragon Ball, adorning everything from towels to T-shirts with motifs and characters from the iconic series.
Converse Stars is a Japanese division that prides itself on inclusivity thanks to its gender-neutral and ageless approach to design. It is described as “a happy and colorful new brand born from Converse,” and as a result, has partnered with Dragon Ball on a number of bold graphic pieces referencing graffiti, title sequences and original episodes.
Throughout the capsule, you can find artworks that appeared in the early days of Dragon Ball such as Son Goku in early childhood and nods to the Red Ribbon Army. One notable piece is the backprint hoodie, which reimagines the first scene of episode one where Bulma — aka Bloomers — and Goku meet.
Another graphic hoodie depicts Kid Goku’s first bike ride, while a range of T-shirts feature a co-branded Converse Stars logo on the front and Goku graphics on the rear. Rounding off the limited-edition collaboration is a selection of socks, an iPhone case, a long-sleeve T-shirt and and two hand towels — one depicting a Flying Nimbus and the other referencing the panty motif in The Secret of the Dragon Balls.
