Interdisciplinary artist Benjamin Shine is widely-known for sculpting tulle fabric into massive three-dimensional portraits. Shine’s latest piece entitled ‘Quietude’ features a net-like form of a human face that is set against the Sonoran Desert sky. To create the ethereal subject, the artist hand-shaped 80 by 20 feet of recycled polyethylene material — a tough and durable plastic.
During the day, the sculpture changes colors from pink to dark crimson depending on the sunlight. “The Sky Flow sculpture takes the concept of the tulle Flow series into new territory as a large scale, self-supporting form,” said the artist in the YouTube video caption.
