Kevin Gates Mixes Romance & the Streets on "Neva Land"
His sophomore album is on its way.
Towards the end of last month, Kevin Gates announced plans to release I’m Him, his first full-length studio album in three years. The follow-up to 2016’s ISLAH, I’m Him was introduced with the release of a a new record “about conquering yourself,” “Push It.” Adding to his current promotional campaign, the Baton Rouge superstar is back with another new single titled “Neva Land.” Although this doesn’t appear to belong to the specific rollout attached to I’m Him, “Neva Land” is the latest entry in an ever-growing list of high-quality and notable loose releases.
“I got a Jewish lawyer, he on standby for the fun of it / In Chicago, done a little time, now I’m done wit’ it / In the trenches, caught a gun charge, now it’s over wit’ / All praise to Allah, got it over wit,” Gates raps during the first verse of “Neva Land.” “I’ll be your bodyguard, I never wish to leave your arms / Cellphone ringin’, cut the ringer off / Please don’t be alarmed, love to see you naked / Please don’t lead me on, I’ll be a rider for you bae.”
