Cuco has been an act to keep an eye on since his first appearance in 2016, and his debut album Para Mí proves exactly why. Hailing from the same Californian coastal town that bred the Beach Boys and Tyler, the Creator, it’s no surprise that the Hawthorne native’s offering arrives as a perplexing package of sonic fusions. Para Mí drifts in and out of genres, jumping from the likes of psychedelic pop to bossa-nova in a span of 13 tracks. The lyricism covering love and isolation translates the record into a relatable one, creating a space for uninitiated listeners to comfortably sit down and understand Cuco’s psyche.
