Benny The Butcher Wants to Inspire Others to Hustle
He also discusses Griselda Records and Buffalo.
For the latest entry in our Conversations With interview series, HYPEBEAST linked up with Benny The Butcher, who’s one of the best rappers in hip-hop right now. The Griselda Records rapper sits down with us to discuss why the Buffalo-based record label has some of the best rappers in hip-hop right now, his writing process and his motivation to be the best he can be.
Benny The Butcher’s The Plugs I Met, which dropped in June, is one of the best projects of the year so far. The EP is hip-hop to its core, with Benny delivering a project that would make a rap purist’s heart flutter. It’s been a long journey for the Buffalo native who found his path outside of his environment.
“I’m from a legendary hood in Buffalo, Montana Ave, legendary hood,” he shared with HYPEBEAST. “It’s birthed a lot of millionaires, hustlers, shit like that, just all the drug sales on the block. Just seeing that, that turned me and my ni*&as into go-getters. I was inspired by go-getters and I was watching them move and how they inspired people and I wanted to be that. Only thing is I learned how to do it outside the dope game also.”
Griselda is having a banner year. Led by Westside Gunn, Conway and Benny The Butcher, the record label is craving out a loyal fanbase while making the top of the line in hip-hop. Most recently, the trio linked up with DJ Premier for “Headlines.”
