PHIPPS SS20 Delivers Functional Cowboy Couture
The sustainable brand blended hiking gear with Western wear.
Sustainable label PHIPPS debuted a full range of functional looks at Paris Fashion Week, blending designer Spencer Phipps’ rich influences into a melting pot of fashion-forward, ecological items. “Like a Rock” is a mélange of trek gear, Western touchstones and space-age statement pieces, all fused into an appreciable blend of neutral colors and effortless cuts.
Retro-indebted graphics played out on sleeveless tees and quarter-zip base layers, with relaxed slacks and cargo pants lending weight to the slouchy styling. Colorful bandanas were tied around necks and face, complementing the cowboy hats, chaps and Western overshirts, while hiker-friendly fleece jackets, active shorts, PHIPPS-branded backpacks, trail boots and waist-mounted chalk holders reinforced the collection’s adventurous motif.
Chunky jewelry and summer-weight printed separates upgraded the looks with a touch of urban refinement, bolstered by oversized suiting and wrinkled button-ups; the disparate hybridization was underlined by a space-themed sleeping bag/coat, affirming one key element that united the collection’s various inspirations: the pursuit of comfort.
Check out PHIPPS’ runway looks above and expect the range to hit stockists like SSENSE early next year.
