Harold the Scarecrow & The Jangly Man Strike Fear in New 'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark' Trailer
Bringing the terrors of the short story series to life.
Guillermo del Toro and André Øvredal are offering a new trailer for their upcoming film, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Based on Alvin Schwartz’s children’s horror book trilogy from the ’80s and ’90s, del Toro and Øvredal have taken elements from the short stories to create a straightforward horror narrative surrounding a group of teenagers in a small town.
The two-and-a-half minute preview provides a better understanding of the flick’s plot, introducing more characters and unloading how the teenagers were able to get their hands on the cursed book. While this new clip features previously-seen monsters The Pale Lady and Big Toe, it gives audiences a better look at another one of Alvin Schwartz’s original characters, Harold the Scarecrow, along with a new ghoul named The Jangly Man. Created as a combination of other creatures in the book, The Jangly Man’s shambled face and extreme contortion are looking to be the film’s biggest and most terrifying evil.
