Vans and Former Prepare Blacked-Out SS19 Essentials for Surfers and Skaters Alike
Dane Reynolds, Craig Anderson and Austyn Gillette’s label drops its first collaborative footwear.
Founded in 2016 by Vans global team rider Dane Reynolds, fellow surfer Craig Anderson, skater Austyn Gillette and the much-missed Dylan Rieder, Los Angeles-based Former delivers garments for surf- and skateboarders alike, blending functional appeal with effortless prints and patterns. The label’s like-minded pals at Vans join the emerging imprint for a special capsule collaboration, offering surf-friendly wearables and skate-conscious kicks, and vice versa.
Encompassing a variety of blacked-out garments and kicks, the collaborative range delivers a brief array of items ideal for summer adventures. The clothing collection includes an EverRide stretch boardshort with Former’s signature zip on a thigh-mounted cargo pocket and a short-sleeved zip shirt, both executed in black and finished with a co-branded tag towards the hem.
The footwear offering delivers a matching pair of leather La Costa Lite X Slides and Style 36 FT, with a zipper replacing the laces. Finally, the sole pop of color comes by way of a beige suede Sk8-Hi 138, complete with a black sole and toecap. A classic “OFF THE WALL” tongue tag complements the co-branded tag on the lateral side, along with thematic text on the lateral side midsole.
