UK-based label STORY mfg. has visited the marketplaces of artisanal fakes in India for its latest collection titled “Bootleg Block.” Known for its ethical approach and use of natural design techniques, the “Bootleg Block” drop sees a collection of Shore Shirts and Bridge Shorts covered in plant-based dye prints made from hand-carved blocks.
Speaking about the collection, STORY mfg. explained that it is ”inspired by the fabrics and products found across India, made by artisans, then printed with western business names as decoration. We’ve seen “Versace” handloom, handmade “Google” sandals and even “adidas” serving bowls.”
The two-piece drop is available in bright Summer-ready hues such as mustard yellow and deep blue with overlaid naturally-made red prints. Both the shirts and the shorts are finished with Corozo buttons — a 100% natural material that resembles resin made from tightly woven fibers. Integrated into the design is the STORY mfg. moniker, which sits between paisley and flower-inspired prints.
