AAPE+ Dishes out Utilitarian Sneakers for SS19
Featuring two different variations.

It was only last year when BAPE‘s diffusion line AAPE by A Bathing Ape introduced its inaugural athleisure-heavy AAPE+ collection.
To ring in the Spring/Summer 2019 season, AAPE+ has unleashed a new line-up of sneakers infused with utilitarian stylings. The tech-centric pieces include low-top variations and high-top options which both feature sock-like ankles reminiscent of Balenciaga’s Speed Trainer.
Going by the name “AAPE+ Potential SS,” (SS short for “Shadow Spirit”), the low-top model is said to take inspirations from Kendo and the lacing of motorcycle boots. Its woven upper comes in various colorways including black, white and military green, while its contrasting white midsole provides protection and stability for the wearer.
The high-top model dubbed “AAPE+ Awakening EX,” (short for “Element X”), has been inspired by Machine block movement and features several “+” symbols throughout the upper and sole. Over on the midsole, the bionic structure mimics the tension between different segments of the human sole for unparalleled comfort. The “AAPE+ Awakening EX” will be available in black, white and multicolor.
Finally, instead of its signature circular AAPE motif, an updated triangular-shaped logo can be found embossed into strap buckles and branding tags, along with AAPE+ motifs found written across the straps and the lateral portion of the midsoles.
AAPE+ by A Bathing Ape’s first sneaker collection for Spring/Summer 2019 will release exclusive at the Shanghai Sneaker Con running from May 17-19. The sneakers will then hit US, Japan, China, Hong Kong and Macau retailers on May 25. The “AAPE+ Potential SS” will retail for $999 HKD (approximately $127 USD) and the “AAPE+ Awakening EX” will retail for $1,199 HKD (approximately $153 USD).
