YungManny Blends Comedy & Hip-Hop in Latest Visual for "All My Guys Are Ballers"
Staying true to the “DMV flow.”
YungManny is back with a new track and music video in his signature style titled “All My Guys Are Ballers.” Not your everyday rapper, the 15-year-old up-and-comer is effectually blurring the lines between hip-hop and comedy, with Pitchfork aptly describing him as someone who uses “PG pop culture references to make R-rated threats.” The Maryland based rapper is somewhat of an outlier, not just because he’s young, but because he’s characterizing an entire sonic aesthetic around his own ethos. Described as the “DMV flow,” short for “the District, Maryland, and Virginia,” it’s a sound that employs a near horror movie score as the basis for its instrumentals – creeping piano melodies and quiet-yet-hard laden basslines.
YungManny manages to imbue these sensibilities with his Nigerian heritage – enforcing an off-kilter plethora of one liners that are often just as hard-hitting as they are hilarious. After all, who manages to pull off lines like “my chopper gonna bless you a-choo, “my African baby cooking pepper soup,” “she Thomas the train bet I make her choo,” and “stomp on his grave like the Pixar eye.” However, regardless of how contradictory his work might come off – it works, and it hits.
