With Billy McFarland behind bars and Ja Rule planning another music festival, model/influencer Kendall Jenner has finally opened up about her affiliation with Fyre Festival.

In a recent interview from The New York Times, Jenner explained to journalist Amy Chozick the nature of her partnership with Fyre and where it went wrong. “You get reached out to by people to, whether it be to promote or help or whatever, and you never know how these things are going to turn out, sometimes it’s a risk,” she explained. “I definitely do as much research as I can, but sometimes there isn’t much research you can do because it’s a starting brand and you kind of have to have faith in it and hope it will work out the way people say it will.” Adding that even when she knows her collaborators, “you never really know what’s going to happen.”

Jenner was one of the many influencers, alongside Gigi Hadid, Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski, tapped by McFarland and co. to promote Fyre Festival to the masses. The model was reportedly paid $250,000 USD to announce that the members of the G.O.O.D. Music family were set to perform at the festival on her Instagram.

Chozick also went on to ask Kendall’s sister Kylie Jenner about her self-made billionaire title given to her by Forbes. “I can’t say I’ve done it by myself. If they’re just talking finances, technically, yes, I don’t have any inherited money. But I have had a lot of help and a huge platform.”

The disastrous festivals led to not one, but two documentaries by streaming giant Hulu and Netflix. To combat for some of the monetary loses, Fyre Festival Merch was put up for auction.
