TOKiMONSTA Teases New Album, Drops "Strange Froot" Single
‘Young Art Sound II’ is on the way.
Beatmaker extraordinaire TOKiMONSTA has readied the follow-up to 2017’s Lune Rouge, recently remixed into a new animal entirely. Dubbed Young Art Sound II, TOKi has prepped a new video to go along with the LP’s first single, “Strange Froot.”
A compilation of her label’s unique sounds, Young Art Sound II will likely include a lot of appreciably listenable tracks in the vein of “Strange Froot,” with features the breathy vocals of Ambré. Jazzy guitars weave in and out of the track’s light violin stabs and lumbering bass drum kicks, informing “Strange Froot” with an easygoing, summery attitude.
Though its title nods to the anti-lynching jazz standard “Strange Fruit,” TOKiMONSTA’s latest distances itself from topics of grim injustice (though Ambré does deliver some thought-provoking lines); instead, the track delivers on a surprisingly peaceful motif that’s unique for TOKi’s output which usually focuses on driving electronic sounds.
Watch the video for “Strange Froot” above and expect Young Art Sound II to launch May 3.
