Nike LeBron 16 Is Dunked in Heritage MPLS-Inspired Colorway
Revisiting the LA Lakers’ Minneapolis roots.
Nike is giving the LeBron 16 an MPLS overhaul for Spring/Summer 2019, dressing the Battleknit Flyknit 2.0 construction in a clean 1960s LA Lakers period colorway.
Before heading to LA, the basketball team was based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The team colors taken from the archival jerseys have been translated onto the LeBron 16, seeing a mixture of “Wolf Grey/White/University Blue” with hints of gold throughout.
A speckled tri-pod bubble sole unit highlights the vintage team colors, as does the embroidered medial-side Swoosh and dual-tone debossed Swoosh on the lateral, highlighted in blue and gold suede. The suede continues onto the 16’s crown-wearing-lion stamp on the heel, and swathes the “LJ16” branded tongue as well.
The sneaker sees a “2” and “3” patch on its respective foot, and are finished with white laces and a tricolor outsole. The Nike LeBron 16 MPLS is set to release on April 19 at nike.com for $185 USD.
In case you missed it, the Bo Jackson-inspired LeBron 16 Low “Medicine Ball” is releasing this weekend.
