Tom Ford Fall/Winter 2019 Collection: Subdued, Not Simple

When it came to the Fall/Winter 2018 season, Tom Ford kicked off New York Fashion Week  with an eccentric take on his signature suiting and formal wear. Prints like tiger camo and snakeskin were weaved throughout, while models clad in nothing but underwear — which may be a marketing stint for his fledgling line — closed the show. For Fall/Winter 2019, however, the designer has opted for a more subdued approach — but given his diversified use of fabrication and color, by no means should the new collection be seen as a simple one.

The men’s range is anchored by its usual smattering of tailored suits, this time around with the creative director leaning into a color palette of camel, red, olive and gray. As one satin-based set leaves the runway, a waxed leather one enters, followed closely behind by an array of fabrications including velvet and tweed. Ford’s use of materials can be interpreted as extravagant, and his outerwear continues this outlook and opinion. His selection encompasses a silhouette for every occasion, including a stately peacoat, puffer jackets in abbreviated and extended lengths and a strategically-layered leather bomber jacket. As if a nod to the streetwear movement, Ford even threw in a knit hoodie for good measure. Leather gloves, newsboy caps, square-cut shades and suede carryalls finished off the looks.

As for other fashion week tidbits, DYNE recently showcased its FW19 presentation with the help of some stylish robots.
