'Child's Play' First Trailer Highlights a Modern Day Demented Chucky
The evil doll returns thanks to technology.
A teaser trailer for the reboot of Child’s Play has surfaced showcasing Andy (Gabriel Bateman), his mother Karen (Aubrey Plaza) and a glimpse of Chucky‘s new look. Instead of being possessed by serial killer/part-time voodoo expert Charles Lee Ray, Chucky will come to life with cutting-edge toy technology and his violent tendencies will be due to a defect in the model’s programming code.
“Reconceiving a well-loved classic always feels like wading into tricky waters, however, Lars’ fresh vision for this film turned what could have been a challenging process into a seamless and beautiful collaboration,” said MastersFX, the studio’s effects team earlier in December. “MGM and Orion’s Child’s Play is not a remake or retelling but a completely new style and concept and we believe that BUDDI fits with this vision perfectly.”
There’s also a Child’s Play television series in the works for SYFY from the original film’s creator Don Mancini. “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise,” Mancini recently stated. “Allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”
Although there’s no date for the series, Child’s Play will debut in theaters on June 21.
