Nike has presented sneakerheads with an unexpected pre-holiday gift, preparing the Air Aqua Rift in two colorways. A stylized take on the cult classic Air Rift from 1995, the Air Aqua Rift is half sneaker, half clog and entirely unique. Arriving in both “Original Mashup” and “Summit White,” each pair offers a different take on the Rift’s barefoot running ethos — one loud, one significantly more subtle.
Uppers are constructed of stretchy neoprene/sporty mesh, feature a split-toe design on the forefoot and are secured by a single Swoosh-equipped strap across the midfoot. This stripped-back look draws its inspiration from Kenyan barefoot runners. The “Original Mashup” combines two OG colorways with its mix of dark cyan, sporty blue, hot red and vibrant yellow. Meanwhile, the “Summit White” keeps things a touch more subtle, mixing various sail and eggshell shades for a mostly tonal look. Each pair also features black trim and accents.
Midsoles are slightly thicker than the Rift’s OG style, but mostly keep the same shape and feature an Air unit in the heel. “Not Required For Use” is debossed on the medial midfoot, and an Aqua Rift hit appears on the outsole. Previous Air Rift releases have been accompanied by special matching socks with a split-toe design, so it’s not unreasonable to assume that these Aqua Rift iterations will as well.
The Nike Air Aqua Rift “Original Mashup” and “Summit White” will hit Nike’s webstore on December 20. The MSRP is set at $140 USD. Both are women’s shoes but will be available in an extended size run up to 12, which translates to a men’s 10.5.
