Bernie Sanders Appalled by Sneaker Resale Prices on 'Desus & Mero'
“I really don’t like that idea of people paying $4,500 bucks for [sneakers].”
Earlier this week, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was interviewed by Desus and Mero on everything from policy to Cardi B. Half way through the interview, however, Desus and Mero present the politician with three rare sneakers. The late-night-television stars prompt Sanders to guess each one’s resale price and decide if they have “Bernie-approved drip.”
Bernie immediately scoffs at a pair of Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 “Cactus Jacks” after learning the sneaker’s resale price of $1,500 USD. The price blew his initial guess of $100 USD out of the water. The politician continued to play it safe when guessing the resale value of the Off-White™ x Air Jordan 1 “Chicagos”, even though he calls the silhouette a “nice sneaker.” Bernie placed the pair’s value at $250 USD, but in actuality, the pair resales for $4,500 USD. Bernie is appalled, stating that he doesn’t “like that idea of people paying $4,500 bucks for [sneakers].”
Last up is the Nike Air Yeezy 2 “Red October,” which Bernie gives a higher estimate of $1,000 USD. Once again, he is shocked to learn the coveted pair actually goes for $11,000 USD. He’s even more shocked to learn people actually spend that much to buy them.
When asked to describe his ideal sneaker, Bernie explains that his price point is typically between $45 USD and $50 USD. He notes New Balance as his favorite brand and admits his only footwear requirements are “shoelaces” and “rubber soles.”
