Bang & Olufsen's Beosound Edge Is a Gravity-Defying Rolling Speaker
A minimal design with powerful features.
Audio experts Bang & Olufsen reveal a first look at their newest innovation in sound — the Beosound Edge. The speaker was introduced at IFA in Berlin, which showcases the latest and greatest tech products.
Designed by Michael Anastassiades, most notable for his spherical brass lamps, inspiration of the speaker’s form came from the UK’s old pound coin. The circular design with thick edges allows the device to sit on its side, as well as a gravity-defying wall mount. Mimicking the interaction of dials, the aluminum edges respond to the human touch by adjusting the volume when being rolled backward and forward. Proximity sensors can also detect when a person is approaching and triggers the interface to light up.
The Beosound Edge incorporates Bang & Olufsen’s best-in-class sound technology and works with Air Play 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth and voice assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant. The speaker will be available starting November 2018 and with price tag of $3,500 USD.
