Three months ago, a New Jersey high school teacher named Brian Moodey decided to incorporate hip-hop into his curriculum, and Kendrick Lamar even decided to pay a visit. Today, it is reported that the program has inspired its own scholarship called ‘Be Alright,’ named after Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly single “Alright.” Sponsored by Philadelphia hip-hop and culture website Oogeewoogee.com, it rewards the winner a $1,500 college scholarship. Wilkine Brutus, the site’s content director, shares: “We’ve always wanted to create a hip-hop inspired scholarship—a tangible contribution to the culture.” The project is not officially backed by Kendrick himself, but its organizers have reached out to his team. For more details on this, head over here and watch the scholarship announcement above.
