Three months ago, a New Jersey high school teacher named Brian Moodey decided to incorporate hip-hop into his curriculum, and Kendrick Lamar even decided to pay a visit. Today, it is reported that the program has inspired its own scholarship called ‘Be Alright,’ named after Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly single “Alright.” Sponsored by Philadelphia hip-hop and culture website Oogeewoogee.com, it rewards the winner a $1,500 college scholarship. Wilkine Brutus, the site’s content director, shares: “We’ve always wanted to create a hip-hop inspired scholarship—a tangible contribution to the culture.” The project is not officially backed by Kendrick himself, but its organizers have reached out to his team.
