The folks over at Wisecrack on YouTube recently posted a video entitled “The Philosophy of Kanye West.” The extensive video presumably analyzes the profound references to death and mortality throughout Yeezy‘s entire discography. Centering upon the conceptual ideas of despair by 19th century Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, the video draws comparisons between ‘Ye and the “Father of Existentialism” — closely examining several songs that allude to the sad expiry of the rapper’s family members, friends and even himself. For example, “Through the Wire” was inspired by Kanye’s near death experience involving a car accident, “Roses” was stirred up by his grandmother’s passing, and the beautiful death verse mentioned in “Power” was assumedly conjured by his own suicidal thoughts.

As a whole, the channel chose to spotlight Kanye’s music as a way to help describe Kierkegaard’s complicated idea of mankind’s mental anguish in his works. Watch the video above and let us know your thoughts.
