Watch the First Official Trailer of JAY-Z's 'Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story'
New scenes of the six-part docu-series.
Following a short teaser back in February, the JAY-Z-produced Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story docu-series has now released its first official trailer.
The upcoming six-part series focuses on the infamous shooting of unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was fatally gunned down on February 26, 2012 by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman. Claiming self-defense, Zimmerman was later acquitted in 2013 of all charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter under Florida’s stand your ground law. The tragic event and following acquittal sparked national protest and brought attention to issues of race, politics, power and the unjust criminal justice system in the US, giving rise to the Black Lives Matter movement.
The series will feature footage from Martin’s childhood, as well as interviews with Martin’s parents. Watch the first official trailer above and share your thoughts in the comments. Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story will premiere on July 30 on the Paramount Network.
