Despite being in recovery mode from “permanently damaged” vocal chords, TDE’s first lady made her way back home to Maplewood, New Jersey where she not only accepted her Hall of Fame induction, but also performed an electrifying live rendition of her breakout single “The Weekend.” In addition to SZA’s impromptu performance, the 2008 Columbia High School graduate also spoke to students, sharing words of encouragement from an underdog’s perspective saying how she was unpopular, and never went to prom yet still managed to be nominated for five Grammys. “Design your own world right now,” SZA said while adding, “even if people are telling you you’re too young to trust yourself.”
