The car finished 3rd in the 1966 Le Mans race.
Sotheby’s auction house has announced the sale of a legendary 1960 Ford GT40. This particular car is famous for its role in the 1966 Le Mans race, with the gold GT40 finishing third in the 24 hour race as three GT40s occupied all three of the podium positions.
The gold GT40 was driven by American duo Ronnie Bucknum and Dirk Hutcherson, who managed 348 laps of the track for the Holman & Moody racing team. Other features of the car include a 7.0L V-8 engine and a top speed of 200 mph. Considering its important role in racing history, unsurprisingly, the car has an estimated value of between $9 million USD and $12 million USD. The Ford GT40 will go on sale this August at Sotheby’s Pebble Beach auction.
