Charlie Hunnam & Rami Malek Star in New 'Papillon' Trailer
The 1973 classic is coming back.
The lead trailer for director Michael Noer’s new Papillon remake has surfaced.
A rework of the 1973 classic that bears its name, Papillon follows the journey of a prisoner — Henri “Papillon” Charriere, a real-life French criminal — as he attempts to escape the island penitentiary that holds him. The movie was created using a screenplay written by Aaron Guzikowski and it stars Charlie Hunnam as the protagonist “Papillon” — a role previously held by the legendary Steve McQueen. Rounding out the cast: Rami Malek, Roland Moller, Michael Socha, Eve Hewson, Christopher Fairback, Ian Beattie and Brian Vernel. Bleecker Street will distribute the film, which was originally based on a 1969 autobiography by Charriere.
