Shortly following the introduction of a “Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8” edition, the OMEGA Speedmaster CK 2998 appears in another limited edition makeup for 2018. The historic 1959 timepiece was the first OMEGA watch worn in space, and now, it returns in a “Panda”-variety dial that easily qualifies as a modern classic.
The watch’s black subdial and white (sand-blasted rhodium-plated) dial combo is paired with a black/white minute track and black pulsometer bezel. The Alpha-shaped hour and minute hands retain OMEGA’s design heritage with a contemporary blackened finish that also appears at the indices. A black perforated leather strap with white rubber lining rounds out the classic look, while a varnished red second hand lifts the timeless color palette. This Speedmaster boasts the same caliber 1861 movement that powers the 2016 CK 1998 Limited Edition, which beats at 3Hz, has 18 jewels and is equipped with 48-hour power reserve.
This “Panda”-variety OMEGA Speedmaster CK 2998 Limited Edition (ref. 3184.108.40.206.02.001) is limited to just 2998 editions and has a retail price of $5,850 USD. It will be available in-store and online at OMEGA later this month.
