This Japanese Home Focuses on Outdoor Space
Making the garden part of the house.
With a small plot to work with, the biggest challenge facing nLDK Architects with this project was how to maximize the available space and create outdoor areas. To do this, the Nara, Japan-based architecture firm designed a house with a relatively small footprint and a focus on outdoor space surrounding the building.
The ground floor of the house almost entirely opens out onto the garden, making the surrounding space an extension of the home rather than a separate area of the plot. The garden is also wrapped in a tall wall, which creates privacy allowing the residents to use the space however they want. Take a look around the Hey House in Kawanishi above.
