Learn Why Super Saiyans Have Blonde Hair
Probably not what you expected.

Although Goku recently received his new Ultra Instinct form, fans still have not received an official reason as to why the Dragon Ball protagonist’s hair turns blonde, until now.
Originally, the hair transformation from jet black to glowing blonde has been understood as a result of Goku reaching his Super Saiyan form but turns out the change has another more functional reason. During a recent appearance on Japanese broadcaster Fuji TV’s Nonstop variety show, Weekly Shonen Jump, editor Hiroyuki Nakano explained the blonde hair color choice was born out of convenience.
When asked about the Super Saiyan hair, Nakano noted, “it’s a lot of work to color Goku’s hair black. But Toriyama can depict blonde hair just by leaving Goku’s hair uncolored since the manga is published in black and white.” The choice of blonde was to make the series’ incredibly tight schedule more manageable for creator Akira Toriyama – allowing more time to be spent on posing, line work, layout and other aspects that add to Dragon Ball‘s dynamic scenes.
For more Dragon Ball, Bandai Namco is set to release a new mobile game titled, Dragon Ball Legends.
