Chance the Rapper's Next Project Could Come With a Price Tag

“1,500 streams is the equivalent to one [album sale], and that’s just unfair.”

As revealed in a new interview with Complex, Chance the Rapper might have his fans pay for his proper debut studio album. Speaking to Complex for a new cover story, Chance expressed his frustrations with the current chart and sales system. “I think I might actually sell this album. That’s, like, a big step in itself. I kind of hate the fact that I can’t chart, really. I can chart, but the way they have the streaming sh*t set up is weak as f*ck,” the Chicago star tells Complex. “It’s unfair. 1,500 streams is the equivalent to one [album sale], and that’s just unfair. Nobody listens to their songs [1,500] times when they buy it — f*ck outta here! So, it makes it hard. I can’t really compete with other people.”

Regardless of his remarks, the specific details surrounding Chance’s next major musical moves are nowhere near the final stage. “Also, this is all hypothetical. There is no album. I can feel fans squirming in their chair, like, ‘Oh sh*t, he’s changing!’ This is an idea,” Chance assures.

You can run through Chance’s entire feature in the new edition of Complex magazine here – the visual portion of the interview is available for viewing above. Most recently, Chance was in the news for his incredibly generous contributions to his hometown’s public education system.
