Gary Aspden Explains the adidas Spezial Spring/Summer 2018 Footwear Capsule
Inspired by rave culture and the “Second Summer of Love.”
To mark the upcoming release of adidas Spezial‘s Spring/Summer 2018 collection, the line’s designer Gary Aspden recently sat down with END. to discuss the influences and inspirations for this season’s footwear capsule. The collection’s first drop is set to feature four silhouettes, with Aspden reworking pieces from the adidas archive and describing the sneakers as “new products within the confines of a certain aesthetic.”
The main inspiration for this collection is the “Second Summer of Love,” with 2018 being 30 years since acid house and rave culture swept across Britain. The capsule includes two colorways of the Glenbuck silhouette, an archival runner from the mid 1980s which comes in either a brown, off-white and “Granite” version and another in “Mist Jade” and ”Icey Pink.”
Other silhouettes in the pack include the Hulton, which mixes a sneaker from the archives with tooling taken from a Samba, as well as the Padiham, with a suede upper and gum sole, and the Indoor Kreft. Watch the video above to see all five sneakers and to learn how they came about. You can register for the full pack on the END. web store now.
