The Nike Air Jordan 1’s were hugely revolutionary for their time. Not only did they make waves in sneaker culture, sports, music, hip-hop, fashion and art, but they represented something bigger. Designed for basketball legend Michael Jordan, it was the first time a person of color was made the face of a brand as big as Nike, something Phil Knight was warned would kill the company. Documenting the controversial journey of the shoe from its conception to present day, is a feature-length documentary film by award-winning agency Los York called Unbanned: the Legend of AJ1.
The film features a number of unfiltered interviews and appearances by Tinker Hatfield, Michael B. Jordan, Spike Lee, DJ Khaled, Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook, David Stern and more. According to unbanthelegend.com, the documentary is expected to release early this June.
