SZA Drops Music Video for "The Weekend"
Solange directs the visuals for the surprise hit single.
SZA’s CTRL has been a runaway success and it’s fair to say that “The Weekend” has been one of the biggest surprise hits from the project. And with that in mind it’s no shock that the track has now received the video treatment. Originally it wasn’t planned to be a single but the sheer success of it — it’s the second platinum single from the 2017 album — has changed that.
The visuals were directed by none other than Solange, which would explain why, despite having its own unique vision, it’s visually reminiscent of ”Don’t Touch My Hair” and “Cranes in the Sky.”
The video features SZA dancing in a variety of locations while some text overlays a repeating gif-like motion of the artists at the start of the song. In addition to also releasing this video, she also graced the cover of BRICK magazine, with other covers including Jorja Smith and Playboi Carti.
